A message from Auckland Business Chamber CEO, Michael Barnett:

“A big part of what the Chamber’s about is being committed to Auckland and to Auckland business.

And if we’re committed to Auckland business, we’ve got to be committed to all our communities ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate in employment.  Diversity in our workplaces builds better, more productive and innovative businesses.

The Auckland Business Chamber set a goal in 2001 to assist with the ever increasing demands of the Auckland business community for staff - people with the right skills and right attitude.  Rather than using a traditional personnel agency method, we chose to establish a division that would connect business with people who struggle to be found.  Whether through ethnicity, age, gender, socio economic or being differently abled, there is a rich talent pool of job seekers who lack the job hunting know-how and networks to secure meaningful employment.

We’re proud of the fact that we partner with government to identify job seekers who are under-employed or unemployed, and use our reputation and network to provide pathways to great jobs and careers.

Through the efforts of the Chamber’s gifted team of work readiness trainers, mentors, job coaches and recruiters we are placing over 1000 people a year into employment.  A service that is free to job seekers and employers, thanks to the partnerships with Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment and the Tamaki Regeneration Company.

We do things differently at the Chamber.  We put the individual at the centre of what we do, with deep respect and understanding of diversity in all its forms.  Hope and aspiration is at the heart of our ethos.

We’re in this for the long game.”
