Landing a dream job that “changed my life”

Late in 2020, Leah was helping her dad out at a warehouse and not getting paid. Her WINZ case manager suggested she go on the CadetMax training course. Leah had never applied for a job and didn’t feel confident in what to say in an interview, but she knew she had to learn more to achieve a dream of being an engineer someday.

 What happened next helped Leah land a dream job that “changed my life”.

At CadetMax Leah learnt what she needed to put into a CV. She became familiar with the job interview process and got to practice the questions she might get asked.  Best of all, Leah said she was able to build her confidence in talking about herself.

A couple of weeks after the course, in the weekly Job Hunt session, Leah found a job that looked perfect. The problem was, the due date for applications had closed a few days earlier. Leah however, with newfound confidence and encouragement from the CadetMax team, sent in her cover letter and CV anyway. What happened next was a dream come true.

Leah was super surprised to get a call from the hiring manager the next day calling her in for an interview. He said they had selected 5 possible candidates, but he was so impressed with her CV that he wanted to meet her too.

The rest is history, she nailed the interview and started her new job a few weeks later, training to be an engineer at an elevator installation and maintenance company. In describing her job, she says she “loves it” and it is “going so well”. Even during the lockdowns she is getting paid and spends most days training and learning about the systems.

Leah is grateful for the training she received to allow her to live into her goals.
